Starting 2008 the Committee has merged its two Tax Committee and Customs committee and both issues will be addressed in the same Committee. Bellow is the outline of work plans for 2008 and 2009 which will be open for improvement by members input.
Tax Division:
The Committee proactively addresses both existing and new tax issues, by maintaining a dialog with the Ministry of Taxes, commenting on draft legislation and organizing forums for discussions of ‘hot topics’. We continue to keep in close contact with all members, non-members and government officials through regular meetings and attendance of various forums and conferences, as well as increasing awareness of the membership on tax issues and tendencies.
Customs
The Committee promotes change in the customs system through consistent interpretation and application of existing regulations. We encourage growth and change in harmony with World Customs Organization (WCO) standards in the region. The main aim of the Committee is further dialogue with the customs authorities to reduce miscommunication, make clear the need for action and increase transparency in transactions.
The objective for 2008 and 2009 is to be involved in the preparation of the suggestions for changes in new Customs Code and ensure that the Code reflects the experience of AmCham members and their needs in regulation of import-export activity.
